50 Faces for Hospice - Workington St Joseph's Walking Football Club
Workington St Joseph’s Walking Football Club
My Story
Our Walking Football Club has been operating from St Joseph's School in Workington since 2016. It has taken time but we are now very well supported in terms of numbers attending our sessions. We play competitively in local leagues and have social get-togethers too. Our ages range from 18 through to the grand old age of 78 and collectively we like to give back to our local community when we can. In the past we have chosen other well deserving charities and for 2020 we are supporting Hospice at Home West Cumbria. Please see below to see why we have chosen such a great and very worthwhile charity.
Thank you for choosing to support Hospice at Home West Cumbria in our 50 Faces for Hospice campaign.
Hospice at Home West Cumbria provides palliative and end of life care to patients and their families across West Cumbria. We need to raise over £1 million each year to deliver these vital services which are provided FREE of charge to those who need them.
Our nurses deliver palliative and end of life care 24 hrs a day, 365 days a year, providing the best possible care for people with a life-limiting illness and those who are close to them.
We are the sole provider of specialist lymphoedema services in West Cumbria. We provide assessments, appropriate treatments and support and advice for patients, families and carers.
Our Family and Bereavement Support (FABS) team support patients and their families during some of the most difficult of times. They offer a number of therapies, including one-to-one and group support to patients, carers and those bereaved.
Our complementary therapists offer, mindfulness, reflexology, Reiki, therapeutic massage, and breathing and relaxation techniques. Treatments are offered to patients with life limiting conditions and their loved ones. Many of our patients find Reiki to be especially beneficial in the last days of life, offering a sense of peace and calm.
